Hi Jeannie

Sorry this has nothing to do with Charles Schultz's biography but I was desparate to contact you.

I am writing to you regarding our mutual Czech friend Alena Hnidkova. I haven't heard from her since April and I am very worried as I know she was not in the best of health. She did not respond to my birthday wishes (we were both born on 24th November) and both her email addresses (work and home) now fail. The last time we saw her was in July 2007 in France when she spent a few days with us. Before that she had come to us, near London, following a visit to you while you were in England. Have you any news? I would be very grateful if you could get in touch with me and tell me what you know.

Many thanks.

My impression of the book was that it dwelled too much on the possible melancholic personality of Charles Schulz, but did not delve into the creative process of the strip near enough to satisfy the many Peanuts fans. The book seemed to dry up on details of Schulz's life soon after his second marriage, and left me wanting much more information on his later life. I enjoyed reading about Schulz's formative years, and was thankful to have this book to tell me about the what occured to make the strip what it became, but perhaps there is indeed more that can be said about Schulz's routine and his life, which dwells less on personality quirks and more on the genius that he was, and I hope I live to read it and enjoy it. I wrote Charles Schulz two times in my life, neither time expecting a reply, but both times receiving back a short cordially note. That speaks volumes about the character of the man to me.

I haven't been following this thread closely, so I don't know if this has been said, but I found Michaelis's book fairly uninteresting because I thought he focused on the wrong things. So Charles Schulz had problems? I'm not surprised. I haven't found anyone yet who doesn't.

I was more interested in how his creative process worked, and I felt that was overlooked in searching for connections between Schulz's personal life and his work. Although Schulz's inspirations were noted, I felt the connections between the works and the Peanuts strip were weak.

I was looking for a book about one of the greatest cartoonists in history, but instead I found the book to be about how isolated Schulz was. I guess the real book abut Charles Schulz is still waiting to be written.
