The ever-optimistic Wile E. Coyote.
In the Iowa Republican primary on January 3rd, Rudy Giuliani came in 6th and got 3% of the vote.
How did his supporters respond?
John Podhoretz: “The result in Iowa could not have been better for Giuliani tactically.”
David Frum: “Yet as the smoke clears, it’s going to become apparent that Rudy was the night’s big winner.”
On Jan. 8th in New Hampshire, Giuliani came in 4th with 8.5% of the vote.
Howard Fineman of Newsweek argued that: “This is perfect for Giuliani…”
On January 15th in Michigan, Giuliani came in 6th and got 2.8% of the vote (only slightly better than “uncommitted” which got 2.1% of the vote).
According to Ari Fleischer this is “Great news for Rudy.”
What does Giuliani himself think about how his campaign is going?
“Am I nervous at all? Do I look nervous? (I am) having a great time. This is a strategy we selected–it is the only strategy that can work for us and it’s a good one…and given the nature of the race which is wide open, we think it is going to turn out to be a smart strategy.”
